Emre Can: “We are the favourites, but we need to attack”

Emre Can has told the media that we cannot afford to be complacent in the second leg of our Europa League last-16 tie against Man Utd on Thursday night (via official site).

We will take a 2-0 advantage to Old Trafford after a fantastic performance at Anfield last Thursday, but the German says we need to wipe that from our minds.

“Everyone was very happy with the draw to play United, we just wanted to play like recent games which we played very well. We did a good job and we have to keep going like that next week.

“It was a very big game for the Liverpool family. It was a great game, a great night, a great result.

We have to keep going like in the first game. We have to press and we have to play to win the game. Of course, we have to try and score again. We don’t want to defend for 90 minutes.

“We want to go to the quarter-final, we want to win this competition. We have played a lot of games in it already. It is very important to us.”

We are on a great run, having been unbeaten in 90 minutes in our last seven games (the only loss came in the shootout against Man City).

We will have also had a week to rest between the two legs, while Man Utd were involved in a testing 90 minutes against West Ham in an FA Cup quarter final on Sunday in a match which ultimately ended 1-1.

On paper, the Old Trafford game should be a formality, but it is never that simple. Not conceding first is vital; if we score one, Utd will need four.
