Hamstring Alert: Reds dealt blow as full-back pulls up in training

Posted by

Alberto Moreno is a major doubt for our game against Man United on Thursday after pulling up with a suspected hamstring issue in training on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

According to the Echo, he was practising his crossing at the time.

He took no further part in the session and was later seen in deep discussions with Klopp and the club’s head physio Chris Morgan.

The club have said it is too early to give a proper diagnosis, and a full medical test will be conducted on Thursday morning.

If he is not fit enough to play, his likely replacement would be Australian full back Brad Smith – there are no other left-backs in the Europa League squad after Jon Flanagan’s omission.

It would easily be the biggest game of Smith fledging career; he’s only made eight senior appearances and hasn’t played since the FA Cup defeat to West Ham last month.

On the plus side, he does have Europa League experience – he played in the group stages against Sion – but that is a far cry from what is sure to be a hostile cauldron at Old Trafford.
