Coutinho explains thought process behind David De Gea dink

Coutinho’s beautiful goal last night sent us loopy, and secured us a daunting but wonderful quarterfinal against Borussia Dortmund in April.

Liverpool were on the ropes against Manchester United, having conceded first – but Coutinho’s moment of genius effectively put the game to bed – and we could have had a hatful afterwards.

Picking the ball up on the left wing, our no.10 humiliated Varela before dinking over David De Gea at a near impossible angle.

“I had the chance to be face to face with De Gea and I’ve tried this kind of thing before in training, so I thought ‘why not?’’ the Brazilian told UEFA.

“Luckily, it came off. You could say that this was one of my best goals in a Liverpool shirt, but once again, all that counts is the team, and this evening the team performed at a very high level, creating several chances and showing how strong we are.

“Our morale is really high due to the 10 games without losing [in the Europa League] and this success against Manchester United, after a good game at home last week. We are building confidence to achieve big things for the club.”

Coutinho is a scorer of brilliant goals, but he’s also a scorer of important ones – and that’s what makes him such a big game player.

Just this season we can remember crucial game-changing goals against Chelsea, Stoke and West Ham which came from nothing.

Now the challenge is for the 23-year-old to convert more of his simpler opportunities! Against United, his overall play was amazing, but he left the field with one goal when he could have had a hat-trick.

Coutinho is so outrageously talented – we’d just like to see him be a little more clinical.
