Europa League draw – Klopp doesn’t want “world’s strongest team” Dortmund

Posted by

Liverpool will be England’s sole representative in Friday’s Europa League quarter-final draw after we beat Man Utd 3-1 on aggregate on Thursday night.

The Premier League’s only other side, Spurs, were thrashed 5-1 by Dortmund over the two legs.

The quarter final is an open draw, meaning anyone can face anyone and no teams will benefit from “country protection” (via uefa.com)

Here’s the list of the teams who are still standing:

Athletic Club Bilbao (ESP)
Braga (POR)
Borussia Dortmund (GER)

Liverpool (ENG)
Sevilla (ESP)
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)
Sparta Praha (CZE)
Villarreal (ESP)

The draw will take place at 12 noon UK time, with the games being played on the 7th and 14th April. The first side out of the hat will play the first leg at home. Should we progress, the semis would take place on 28th April and 5th May.

The final is in Basel on 18th May.

There are clearly some big hitters still in there. We definitely want to avoid Sevilla, who’ve won the last two tournaments, and Dortmund – Klopp’s old side.

Klopp was asked about the possibility of a game against Dortmund in his post-match press conference and responded in a jovial fashion.

“Dortmund – why would I want the world’s strongest team?” joked the German. “But if we go there, we try to win. I’ve not really looked to see who got through, but I’m pretty sure there are no easy games anymore. It’s not too important. We have to be prepared and hopefully we are.” (via BBC)

“All my friends in Dortmund want to play us – but only in Basel.”
