Borussia Dortmund boss discusses ‘special’ Liverpool tie

Borussia Dortmund’s impressive young manager Thomas Tuchel knows his side need two perfect matches to beat Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Europa League quarterfinals.

We drew the Germans in the Last Eight, meaning Klopp will enjoy a romantic return to Siguna Park, Dortmund’s brilliant, atmospheric stadium.

Dortmund are probably the best team left in the competition. They pride themselves on an attacking triumvirate of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – players we will have to stop if we’re to progress.

Dortmund’s boss Tuchel though is excited about the clash and describes the match as a ‘dream’ for football fans.

“We want to measure ourselves up to the best and we’re going to face yet another top opponent,” Tuchel told bvb.com, cited in the Echo.

“This is a dream draw for all fans of football. For us, it’s a huge sporting challenge.

“We’re going to need two top performances in order to go through, and we’re looking forward to two games of the highest level.”

Dortmund are eight points off Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, but 13 points ahead of third placed Hertha Berlin – meaning barring an odd run of results – they’ll finish 2nd. This means the Europa League will define their season and they’ll be going all out to defeat their beloved former boss.

Liverpool though are playing well. Coutinho is pulling strings, Emre Can’s running the midfield and Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho have formed an excellent central defensive partnership.

It’s going to be incredibly tough, but these are matches that make being a Liverpool fan worthwhile!

Bring it on.
