Henrikh Mkhitaryan criticises Klopp for being a “football madman”

Posted by

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has descibed Jurgen Klopp as a “football madman”, according to the Echo.

The comments were originally made during an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Of course, we famously tried to sign Mkhitaryan in the summer of 2013, but the Armenian turned down the chance to join Brendan Rodgers in favour of a move to Klopp’s Dortmund.

He’s what he said:

“With Klopp, he was a football madman: pressure and counter-attack. Instead, (Thomas) Tuchel (Dortmund’s coach) has changed our lives. Now we command the game and I have more freedom to attack. Thanks to him I now make myself more useful.”

Mkhitaryan has scored 19 goals and grabbed 24 assists this season since Klopp left.

He is one of the few players who played under Klopp to come out and criticise him. Is it just a case of sour grapes? Are there perhaps some mind games at work ahead of our quarter final with his team?
