Benteke makes sarcastic comments on Klopp, who ‘ignores’ him at Liverpool

Christian Benteke has does what every footballer shouldn’t do and that’s give a sulky interview to their national press when away on international duty…

The striker is with Belgium and told publication voetbalnieuws that those who said he’d thrive under Jurgen Klopp were wrong.

For the first time in Benteke’s career, he finds himself as a bench option, partly because of shoddy form and partly because Klopp’s building a side that he clearly doesn’t fit into.

“Some teammates have said that I was lucky with the arrival of Klopp, because I certainly would play,” Benteke began…

“When your coach says he wanted to take you to Dortmund and a little later you sit at the same club and he ignores you, it is hard to understand.”

After Klopp handed out a rollicking on the pitch to Benteke after Southamtpon’s 3-2 comeback win on Sunday, this could well the nail in the coffin of his Liverpool career.

He’s stuck behind a number of players in the Liverpool striker pecking order and it seems a summer sale would be best for both parties, with West Ham chairman David Sullivan confirming an interest (via Echo).

Benteke added that criticisms of his attributes in relation to Klopp’s style are false, although unfortunately we’d beg to differ.

“I do not understand why people say that. I can play pressing and moving a lot. It is not that we play in the Barcelona style,” the 25-year-old said.
