Brad Smith plays 90 minutes as Australia score seven

Posted by

Our young full-back Brad Smith played the whole game as Australia’s thrashed Tajikistan 7-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Adelaide (via official site). It was the 21-year-old’s fifth cap for the Socceroos.

Smith lined up in his usual left-back position and turned in a solid performance, terrorising the Tajikistani defence with his penetrating runs and doing his bit at the other end with aplomb.

Australia only led 2-0 going into the final 30 minutes, but a late surge saw them run out as easy winners.

It leaves the Aussies top of Group B with six wins and one loss from their seven games. They are two points clear of Harry Redknapp’s Jordan with one game left to play.

The top side advances to the next stage, along with some of the best runners-up. Their final game is at home to Jordan on Tuesday. Worryingly for Smith, there only loss came at the hands of Jordan back in October.
