Ian Rush: “Benteke will get another chance”

Posted by

Liverpool goalscoring hero Ian Rush has said Christian Benteke will get another chance, but it he must take it if he is to stay at the club (via Echo).

Benteke hit the headlines for his criticism of our team selection policy last week before promptly returning to Melwood with a knee injury (via Guardian).

“I think he’s short of confidence,” said Rush.

“I was happy when Liverpool signed him. Two years ago, he was ahead of Romelu Lukaku and Divock Origi in the national team.

“He has got ability but he’s obviously just frustrated because he’s not playing week in week out.

“It’s difficult if you’re not playing every week to get yourself match fit. He just needs to score goals. He will get his chance. And when he does, he’s got to take it.

“If you’re scoring goals, it’s hard for a manager to leave you out.”

Benteke has been consistently linked with a move away from the club this summer, with reported interest from the Chinese Super League.
