Liverpool’s huge bin list: 16 players Reds must ship out this summer

Posted by

It’s pretty eye opening to see just how much deadwood Liverpool currently has on its books.

Here, we’ve listed 16 players we can realistically see leaving this summer, and we’ve not even been especially ruthless. There’s five or six more who could also be added to this list, but time will tell how many fall by Jurgen Klopp’s sword.

What’s great, is that although the players here don’t contribute much to our first XI, they’ll free up a huge amount of wages and hopefully add a sizeable whack to Klopp’s transfer kitty as well. By getting rid of this many and bringing in four or five we are streamlining the group but increasing the quality – likely at minimum overall cost.

Interestingly, Klopp sold or released a plethora of Borussia Dortmund players during his first summer in charge, and it’ll be no surprise to see him do it again with Liverpool.

What do you reckon, Reds? Will more leave, or will a larger cull simply be too destructive?

GOALKEEPERS:

Adam Bogdan

Not good enough, as proved by this season. Any fee should be accepted.

Lawrence Vigoroux

Behind Danny Ward and Ryan Fulton. Should be allowed to progress in the lower leagues.

DEFENDERS:

Jose Enrique

Good riddance. £75k-per-week off the wage bill as well.

Kolo Toure

A shame to say goodbye, but with Joel Matip signing and Joe Gomez back fit, we can free up some more wages on the expiration of Toure’s contract.

Martin Skrtel

Not good enough, and it’s time we end Skrtel’s eight year stay at Anfield. He’ll stop Gomez’s chance of minutes, which is no good either. Clubs will spend money on the Slovakian still and we should take advantage of that.

Steven Caulker

Caulker’s loan spell won’t be renewed.

Tiago Ilori

Has done ok, but clearly isn’t a long-term Klopp option. Not physical enough.

Andre Wisdom

Can’t get in Norwich’s team, won’t ever get in ours.

MIDFIELDERS:

Joao Teixeira

The Portuguese is leaving on the expiration of his contract.

Luis Alberto

Close to a move to Deportivo, where he’s impressed all term.

Joe Allen

A tricky one, but with Liverpool signing Marko Grujic and possibly Piotr Zielinski, the Welshman’s chances of Premier League minutes will be even smaller than this term where he’s only started two games.

Jordon Ibe (loan)

Ibe needs football, badly. He’s too good for the Under-21s but not yet consistent enough for our first-team. Let him have a season at a lower Premier League club and hopefully he’ll start to fulfil his potential.

FORWARDS:

Christian Benteke

Definitely has to go. Doesn’t suit Klopp and made disparaging remarks about him recently too. Liverpool’s job is to maximise the transfer fee.

Jerome Sinclair

Has already agreed a move to Watford.

Mario Balotelli

Same as Benteke. It’s a guarantee that he’s leaving, and Liverpool’s only job is to maximise the sell-on fee. Annoyingly, he’s been dreadful on loan in Italy. Hopefully he’ll fancy a move to China.

Samed Yesil

Closing on his 22nd birthday, Yesil’s chances at Liverpool have been ruined by injury, and his one goal on loan with FC Luzern proves his level at the moment. It’s a shame, as Yesil was exceptional in various German youth sides.
