Klopp apologises for his role in Dortmund’s goal

Jurgen Klopp has said it was his fault that Dortmund scored their goal.

Speaking to the media after the game, he said “I decided to have Lallana in that position instead of Origi so sorry about this.”

Apart from their goal, however, he was largely happy with the performance and the result.

“Dortmund is a pretty good side, everyone could see, but we had our moments. We could have won the game, that’s how it is. We concede this goal after a set-piece, that’s not too necessary but overall the disappointment is Hendo’s injury

“Maybe you haven’t always seen it but we have a plan sometimes. Divock was made for this game with the space he can make, with his speed on the ball, he can hold and keep with his body, it was really good.

“In the end it was 1-1, it’s one of the results you can get when you play in Dortmund. I’m pretty sure that a lot of people thought we would lose two, three, maybe four nil. Of course they had their chances and they played really good and calm in the game but we had them at some moments.

“Around our goal, we were brilliant and you have to work for these moments. Against an opponent like Dortmund you have to move and defend with all you have until you get your chance.

“We are not as far on our way as they are and we cannot play at this moment like them but we can defend them in most moments and we can score goals so obviously we can win.” (via Echo)

He also lamented his side’s lack of height – something he’s already moved to address this summer with the acquisition of 6 foot 3 Matip, and 6 foot 2 Grujc.

“That’s a problem for us when we organise our set pieces at the end. We could have had Divock Origi but you never know. That’s the problem with changes in the game, it’s hectic, it is how it is, we could have blocked the cross. We could do a lot of things but at the end it’s a goal and it’s not the most important thing tonight.”
