Liverpool’s talented youngster Bobby Adekanye has suffered ankle ligament damage and won’t play for the youth sides again this season, the Echo reports.

The Spaniard, signed from Barcelona last summer, has shown serious promise whenever called upon for the Under-18s, but has been injured for long periods and now won’t feature until the new season.

“Bobby will be out for a couple of months,” confirmed Liverpool Under-18s coach Neil Critchley.

“It happened in training with Holland and it’s a shame for Bobby because he had only just got himself back fit.

“Last time it was 10 to 12 weeks with ligament damage. We’re hoping he’ll be back fit for the start of pre-season.”

Yet again, a Liverpool player has picked up an injury whilst away on international duty, and we’re only grateful that Adekanye wasn’t due to play for the first-team anytime soon.

The 17-year-old is physically strong, rapid and skilful – and in this respect shares many traits with Sheyi Ojo who just broke into first-team contention himself.

There’s a chance, if he regains fitness, that Nigerian born Adekanye will play a part in Liverpool’s pre-season, with Jurgen Klopp surely likely to experiment.

He’s been happy to give youngsters a chance this season. As well as Ojo, Kevin Stewart is now a genuine first-team option, while Cameron Brannagan and Pedro Chrivella are considered backup options.
