Yes, we know derbies are passionate affairs. And yes, we know tempers sometimes boil over. But there is absolutely no excuse for a deliberate ankle-breaker, kicking the ball away, then pumping the club’s badge with your fist as you make your way to the tunnel.
Yet that’s exactly what Everton’s vile Argentine defender Funes Mori did during the derby.
His horrendous tackle on Origi could be very serious for the Belgian. He was just coming into form, and with a big few domestic weeks ahead and the Euros on the horizon, the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time.
To be fair to the Everton dugout, they were clearly unimpressed. Their assistant manager Graeme Jones gave him an absolute earful as he headed to the dressing rooms.
