Klopp hints Toure’s long-term future is Liverpool: ‘Kolo is one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met’

Jurgen Klopp today suggested that Kolo Toure, whose contract expires in the summer, may have an ongoing role at the club – be that in a playing or coaching capacity…

The ageing centre-back has been excellent whenever called upon this term, but with only two months left on his deal fans are questioning whether he’ll be released or earn an extension.

“Kolo is part of my future plans. But it depends [on his future], to be honest,” Klopp began.

“I didn’t speak until now with Kolo, but a big part of Kolo’s future is at Liverpool. Everything is ok.

“[He’s} a very important player for us, even when he does’nt play. [He’s] one of the impressive people I’ve ever met. but its not the right moment to speak about the future of Kolo.”

Toure is undeniably good for the Liverpool dressing room. Against Everton, goalscorer Mamadou Sakho ran straight to the 35-year-old to celebrate, and an experienced, Premier League winning head around Melwood is surely invaluable considering our mostly young and inexperienced squad.

From a playing perspective, Toure will not demand game-time, but be available when we need him during injury crises or when Klopp wants to rotate – such as this Saturday against Newcastle. You can expect the former Arsenal and Manchester City man to come in, probably alongside Martin Skrtel, for Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho.

Toure’s clearly impressed Klopp both on and off the field, and we’re glad the manager wants him to play some kind of role in the future of Liverpool.
