In case it had escaped your attention, this weekend marks the return of a Liverpool legend as Rafa Benitez comes back to Anfield.

Rafa, who famously won the Champions League in his first season in charge, is now manager of relegation-threatened Newcastle.

Klopp has asked the fans to show the same passion as they showed against Dortmund and Everton, when it was “easy”.

“If you watched Newcastle against Swansea and Man City and you weren’t impressed then you have no idea about football,” he said (via Echo).

2If they watch our last few games and were not impressed then somebody would be wrong. Maybe they were sat in front of the TV when Divock Origi went off and thought: ‘They’ve got one good striker less’, I don’t know but it’s two good sides in a good moment.

“One side is fighting for their lives. I said before the Stoke game we needed the crowd. Now we really need the crowd.

“Maybe it’s easy to be a good crowd against Everton. The other side are blue and they don’t like them so it’s pretty easy. Dortmund game, the same – pretty easy.

“But Newcastle, big club, fighting to stay in the league. If we want to reach our targets we need to create a really special atmosphere in this game.”

We have played 20 games more than Newcastle this season and one-eye is now inevitably drifting towards to Europa League semi-final on Thursday, but it’s important to focus on the league as well, with the top four still not out of the question.

That said, Klopp refused to be drawn on rumours of his team selection – merely saying, “We will find a team we think is able to win against Newcastle. We respect the competition. If other teams don’t respect our situation then I can’t change that.”
