Liverpool sign talented right-back Diego Lattie

Liverpool have won the race to sign England youth international Diego Lattie, reports the Echo.

The 16-year-old right-back was released by Manchester City, much to the surprise of Premier League clubs everywhere – as Manchester United, Everton, Norwich, Stoke, Sunderland and Aston Villa all tried to snap him up as well.

However, Lattie’s a Liverpool fan, and has now penned a three year deal, where he’ll initially train at the Kirby Academy in the hope of eventually progressing to Melwood.

We’d never heard of Lattie, but the Echo reckon he’s been on our radar since impressing in a game against Neil Critchley’s Under-18 side previously.

If he can maintain his expected levels of progression, there may be a future role for Lattie at Liverpool with current boss Jurgen Klopp showing he’s more than happy to blood youngsters.

Sheyi Ojo, Connor Randall, Kevin Stewart, Ryan Kent and Joe Maguire have all made debuts since the German took over at the end of last year, although Lattie has plenty of years to focus on improvement before he’ll be considered.
