Emre Can could be fit for Villarreal after surprise return to training

Jurgen Klopp has been given a major boost ahead of Thursday’s do-or-die game against Villarreal with the news that Emre Can trained with the rest of the first team on Monday. (via Express)

The German midfielder now has three days to try and convince our boss that he should go straight into the first eleven at Anfield.

Can has been absent since 14th April when he ruptured ankle ligaments in our 4-3 win over Dortmund at Anfield. He was originally ruled out for the rest of the season, but there have been consistent rumours that he might be able to return sooner.

With captain Jordan Henderson also a long-term absentee, Klopp could be tempted to put Can back in the side. He has been one of the best and most consistent performers since the German arrived at the club, and gives a both a slickness and determination to our midfield; something that we lack with a combination of Milner/Lucas/Allen.

The only question is over Can’s match fitness. Would the enormity of the occasion give him the necessary extra 10 percent, or would he struggle to keep pace with the players around him?
