When you hear that Barcelona’s scouts are coming to your ground, you normally have every reason to be concerned. Very few players can resist the charms of the Catalan club, and very few clubs can offer their players a better chance of silverware.
So, when news broke that Anfield had been visited by Barcelona scouts this week, we were immediately worried.
Except they weren’t coming to look at players – instead, they were coming to look at the progress of our new stand. And unless they have a lot of cranes and a Spanish Armada-esque shipping fleet, there is no way they’ll be able to lure it back to the Nou Camp.
According to the Echo, they were actually interested in learning about how to redevelop a football ground while continuing to play in it. The 99,000 capacity Nou Camp is one of the world’s most famous stadiums – but it’s approaching its 60th birthday and is starting to creak.

As such, the club have made plans to increase the capacity to 105,000 and cover the whole stadium with a roof. Their work is scheduled to start in 2017/18 and finish in 2022.
