Arsenal are considering a £30m summer bid for Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge, writes Andy Dunn in the Mirror.

The report claims that Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the 26-year-old, who has not always been an automatic selection under Jurgen Klopp, despite his sensational record when fit.

Sturridge and Klopp have endured some sticky moments during the German’s seven month tenure, with the player claiming it’s hard not being selected all of the time – and the manager previously accusing the forward of not knowing the difference between pain and real pain (via the Guardian).

Still, the forward’s most recent quotes are entirely positive, coming off the back of a goalscoring performance against Villarreal in the Europa League semi-final win.

“I’m happy. I’m happy. I have never expressed not being happy here. I think it is everyone playing Devil’s Advocate,” Sturridge told Sky Sports.

“They see that I have been left out sometimes and they think ‘maybe that means he is unhappy’ but, at the end of the day, the manager has got a job to do.”

As well as the fact Sturridge’s ‘unhappiness’ has been blown out of proportion, there’s simply no way Liverpool will sell to a direct rival.

We flatly refused to sell Luis Suarez to the Gunners in 2013, laughing off their ridiculous £40m+£1 bid, and will surely have even less time for a £30m Sturridge offer.

We’e spent what feels like years waiting for Sturridge to hit peak fitness, and now he’s almost there. It would be absolutely ludicrous to have invested so much time and wages into maximising the player’s health, only to sell him to a rival when he’s ready to explode.

It doesn’t matter if Arsenal offer double the mooted £30m – we shouldn’t sell.
