What are Liverpool’s rivals smoking?

We are just about to enter the silly season, or have we already? This is the time of year when the rumour mill goes into overdrive regarding transfer rumours, and it seems like it has started already.

Rumours in the last couple of days have circulated relating to a couple of Liverpool players being wanted by Premier League rivals.

First it was Arsenal’s interest in wanting Daniel Sturridge for a fee in the region of £30m, but now it seems their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also hoping to land a Liverpool star to strengthen their team.

Spurs are reported to be wanting Adam Lallana to improve their squad as they hope to challenge in Europe and domestically next season.

Both London clubs are certainly being ambitious in terms of adding quality to their squad, but ultimately they will be wasting their time if they think they can land two of Liverpool’s most important players.

Daniel Sturridge has been regarded as Liverpool’s number one striker since Luis Suarez left, injuries have prevented him from showcasing his talent and at times, especially under former manager Brendan Rodgers, the club were pinning their hopes on his fitness.

However, since Jurgen Klopp arrived, Sturridge has found himself fighting for his place in the team just like the rest of the squad, and the German has even left Sturridge out of some of Liverpool’s most important games recently, like the away game in Villarreal.

Sturridge’s desire to stay at Anfield has been questioned recently but his performance and commitment shown in the 3-0 win over Villarreal last Thursday showed everyone just how much he wants to be part of Liverpool’s exciting future working with Klopp.

Lallana has had a slow start to his career at Anfield but since Klopp’s arrival he has become one of the German’s most important players with his work ethic and creativity.

There is no way Klopp will sell Sturridge or Lallana because he will be wanting to strengthen his squad in the summer, not lose two of his best players.

Arsenal and Spurs will have to look elsewhere.
