Liverpool are fighting Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Leverkusen for Hoffenheim’s talented attacker Kevin Volland – who according to Bild – has a €15m release clause.

The Germany international can play anywhere in attack, and enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Roberto Firmino when our Brazilian no.11 was playing for Volland’s Bundesliga outfit previously.

€15m for a versatile 23-year-old with bags of ability and potential seems great business, considering the transfer market nowadays.

That kind of money bought Newcastle Andros Townsend and Everton Oumar Niasse in January, and for Volland – a player of far higher calibre – the deal seems a no-brainer.

The fact Dortmund want him too says a lot, too. For us, Volland could fill in centrally or play on the flanks – providing direct running and immense work-rate – just what Jurgen Klopp demands.

Volland would be an asset because he’s a left-footer who can play on the right, something that bar teenager Sheyi Ojo, we currently lack.

As well as Volland, Liverpool have been strongly linked to Ukrainian Andriy Yarmolenko (via Echo), who similarly plays on the right cuts in on his left – so it’s clear this is an area of the squad Klopp wishes to strengthen.
