Late last night, news broke in respected German outlet SZ Sport that Carlo Ancelotti had called Mario Gotze to tell the playmaker he was no longer needed at Bayern Munich.

They also claimed that Liverpool were in contact with the Bundesliga champions about a potential summer deal, and today, Kicker have backed up the claims in SZ Sport but added that Bayern will sell for a fee between €20m and €25m – which translates as £15m-£19m – an outrageous bargain.

The fee is so low because Gotze’s contract expires in 2017, and the Bavarians realise this will be their last chance to recoup some of the £31m (via BBC Sport) they spent on the playmaker back in 2013.

When you consider what kind of player that money gets you in the Premier League nowadays, acquiring a 23-year-old World Cup winner with talent and potential to burn is an absolute no-brainer.

SZ Sport’s report yesterday said Jurgen Klopp was desperate to reunite with the attacking midfielder he developed so brilliantly at Dortmund, and the induction of Gotze to our already talent-filled final third is a mouthwatering prospect.

Signing Gotze, especially for such a low price, would be an outrageous coup for Liverpool this summer, and shows the draw of Klopp.
