Mignolet praises the Klopp effect – salutes tough mentality

Posted by

Simon Mignolet has been speaking about the incredible turnaround in the club’s mentality since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival.

The 1-1 draw with Chelsea extended our unbeaten home run – we’ve not lost at Anfield since late January in any competition – and our number one says it’s no coincidence.

“It’s not a coincidence any more,” he said Mignolet. “We’ve scored late goals many times this season. It’s something the gaffer has talked to us about”.

“We keep going. We never give up. It’s that mentality that you never accept you are beaten.

“The gaffer has changed that. We’ve got a connection with the fans now.

“We all believe that something is able to happen, no matter how late in the game it is. And the fans believe too. It was nice to give them that late equaliser.

“It was great for Christian to score and that will give him confidence.”

Benteke, of course, scored the 92nd-minute equaliser which rescued the point on Wednesday. It was his ninth league goal of the season.

Mignolet also spoke briefly about the final, saying the players didn’t want to be on the end of another showpiece loss after the Man City defeat in the League Cup final.

“Sevilla are a good side with a lot of experience in this competition. It’s going to be tough but we don’t want to be sitting in the dressing room or on the coach afterwards having lost another final.

“We’ll put in the best performance we can.” (via Echo)
