Liverpool linked with ex-Man City stopper Loris Karius as goalkeeper search reportedly widens

A report in Germany claims that Jurgen Klopp could be set to raid his former club for 22-year-old goalkeeper Loris Karius.

Mainz no.1 Karius has been an ever-present in the Bundesliga this season, not missing a minute and keeping eight clean sheets in 33 games for the side who can wrap up fifth place later today.

Karius and Klopp were never actually at Mainz at the same time, but the Liverpool manager maintains close links with the Coface Arena outfit.

According to German publication Express, Liverpool are considering making a €10m bid for Karius, having switched their attention from 23-year-old FC Koln keeper Timo Horn, who is available for €9m.

Karius was once on the books of Manchester City – between 2009 and 2011 – but he only represented the Premier League club at youth level.

He has also featured for Germany in various age groups, including U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21.

Klopp’s need for a new no.1 is very real. Simon Mignolet has been excellent in patches this year, but he is prone to errors and does not fill those around him with enough confidence to command such an important position in a team as ambitious as this.
