England squad for Euro 2016: Five Liverpool players in provisional 26-man party

Five Liverpool players have been selected for England’s provisional squad for Euro 2016 this summer.

Our captain Jordan Henderson, Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, James Milner and Daniel Sturridge have all made the 26-man party for the friendlies against Turkey and Australia later this month.

Henderson had been a slight injury doubt having missed 10 matches with knee ligament damage, but Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has cleared him for the tournament in France, as BBC Sport reports.

And the midfielder played 25 minutes as a substitute in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion, in a bid to prove his fitness before three players have to be cut from the squad by the May 31st deadline.

Liverpool’s five representatives is the joint most in the squad alongside Tottenham Hotspur, and only Henderson, because of his injury issues, appears to be in any danger of not making the final 23.

Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson sprung a few surprises by picking Manchester United teenager Marcus Rashford, Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend and Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

Here is the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Southampton), Tom Heaton (Burnley), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton) Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Andros Townsend (Newcastle United), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)
