Liverpool transfer news: Reported midfield target to join Premier League rivals

Posted by

Liverpool-linked midfielder Havard Nordtveit has agreed to join West Ham United.

The Norwegian will leave Borussia Monchengladbach to come to the Premier League when his contract expires on July 1. He has signed a five-year deal to play at the Olympic Stadium.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed an impressive development in the Bundesliga after leaving Arsenal in 2010, and it had appeared at one point as though we were in the frame to sign him.

The Mirror reported in February that Nordtveit, who can play as a holding midfielder and in defence, was a prime target of Jurgen Klopp, who knows the German market from top to bottom.

But it appears as though Klopp has moved on to another player, with Polish outlet Przeglad Sportowy today suggesting that we could tie up a £12m deal for Udinese’s Piotr Zielinski this week.

Zielinski is four years younger than Nordtveit and slightly more attack minded. With Joel Matip and Marko Grujic already arriving, that could have ended our interest in the future Hammer.
