The 20-year-old midfielder made an impressive full Premier League debut in our season finale as Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Sevilla.

The Melwood academy graduate has made nine first-team appearances in all competitions this term – including two as a Premier League substitute and three starts in the domestic cups.

And he is now looking forward to kicking on and getting more senior experience next campaign.

“It was a proud moment for me and my family,” Brannagan told the Echo.

“Growing up as a kid, something you always want to achieve is to play in the Premier League. Sunday was massive for me and hopefully now and I can kick on and get more of it.

“It’s been a good year for me moving up to Melwood and being around the first-team squad.

“It’s really helped me grow and develop as a young player. Now I’ve had a taste of the Premier League I just want more of it. Hopefully next season I can get that.”

Brannagan is one of several young central midfielders, alongside Kevin Stewart and Pedro Chirivella, to have been brought into the first-team fold by Klopp this season to manage our workload.

He will not feature in Basel on Wednesday, but will have an invested interest in the match, aside from the obvious, as it could determine his first-team chances for the 2016-17 season.

Without European football next season, more senior opportunities could be limited for Brannagan and therefore he may need to leave on loan to get the competitive football that he needs.
