And so onto the biggest ‘will he, won’t he’ drama of the summer. No, not Mario Gotze’s proposed £20 million transfer – we’re talking about the the Kolo Toure contract situation.

The 35-year-old veteran Ivorian was our best player against Sevilla on Wednesday in a game where a lot of our squad’s soft underbelly was exposed.

While Lovren and Sakho have been receiving plaudits since Christmas, the vastly experienced centre-back has been going about his duty on and off the pitch. Once Sakho got banned he stepped up, and frankly, he has barely put a foot wrong.

According to the player himself, however, next season remains very much up in the air. His contract is out in the summer, and no discussions over an extension have taken place.

“I don’t know (about my future) to be honest,” he said. “We will see what will happen and you will have to ask that question to the manager.

“Of course I want to stay. It’s a great club to play in, but the manager has his plan and any decision I will respect. He is a top manager and he knows what he is doing.

“I am just enjoying my time in this club – a fantastic club and fantastic supporters.” (via Echo)
