Mario Gotze’s eye-opening potential Liverpool wage named; German to become 3rd highest ever paid player

Liverpool are happy to make big summer transfer target Mario Gotze the highest paid player at the club, reports the Star.

In fact, only Luis Suarez’s £200k-per-week contract, signed in December 2013 according to the Telegraph, and Steven Gerrard’s final deal worth £153k-per-week according to ESPN, will be bigger than what we’re prepared to pay the 23-year-old Bayern Munich playmaker.

The report suggests Gotze will earn £150k-per-week before bonuses, eclipsing the current highest paid player at the club – which according to this report – is Christian Benteke on £140k-per-week.

In fairness, Gotze’s won five Bundesliga titles and scored the winning goal in a World Cup Final, so has the required pedigree for such a hefty wage.

He’s also got the talent, and the fact Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t want him at Bayern next season will hopefully be our gain. Gotze broke his rib so didn’t play in Bayern’s German Cup win yesterday, but didn’t join in celebrations and looks more and more certain to leave by the day – with his international manager Joachim Loew speaking up a potential move (via EuroSport).

Our attacking midfield is already full of class, but Gotze would add genuine world-class talent and hopefully the ability to cut defences open consistently while also working and pressing in typical Jurgen Klopp style.
