Loris Karius: Goalkeeper to undergo medical & sign for Liverpool in next few days

Liverpool will complete the signing of Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius this week, according to the Echo.

The Echo understands that the 22-year-old has arrived on Merseyside and will undergo a medical in the next 24 hours after we struck a deal with the Bundesliga club over a £4.7m switch to Anfield.

The Echo reports that the transfer could be confirmed by Tuesday evening.

Karius would become Jurgen Klopp’s third signing – after Joel Matip and Marko Grujic – and will provide more fierce competition for inconsistent number one Simon Mignolet between the posts.

The German stopper has yet to be capped an international level, which should not be a concern as he has the likes of Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Timo Horn blocking his path.

But he has impressed in his four years at Mainz, making 96 appearances in the Bundesliga, and the £4.7m fee quoted represents exceptional value for a player of his age and his promise.

Karius previously spent two years in the Manchester City academy, so should not take long to settle into his North West surroundings, which is sometimes a worry with young foreign imports.

The Echo adds that Klopp is targeting Bayern Munich winger Mario Gotze, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud and Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell in the summer window.
