Liverpool & Man. United fined basically equal sums for Europa League illicit chants

UEFA have fined Liverpool £43,577 and Manchester United £44,342 for the illicit chants heard during the Europa League Last 16 tie, BBC Sport report.

The report states that chants about Munich and Hillsborough were audible from the away supporters in each leg, despite the fact that initially, the Telegraph stated that the chant Liverpool were in trouble for, was: ‘Oh Manchester, is full of sh”t’.

Clips of Reds chanting Munich have surfaced, however, so it’d be wrong of us to claim our supporters behaved impeccably at Old Trafford, although they’d been horrible goaded beforehand by the ‘Murderers’ banner hung over the motorway to Manchester.

The BBC claim we’ve also been punished for flares and a late kick-off, while United were charged for blocked stairways.

The fines are a drop in the ocean for both clubs, but are more symbolic of what turned into a nasty off-pitch affair. As a team, we were exceptional, but the tone United’s away support set in the first-leg at Anfield created this mess.
