Coutinho’s comments worry Reds: ‘I miss winning Cups’

Hmm.

Please don’t tell us this is the beginning of another long, drawn out transfer saga in which Liverpool’s best player eventually departs the club – again.

PSG are interested in Coutinho – that much has been confirmed by Paul Joyce in the Express – and have already contacted the player’s representatives about a blockbuster summer deal.

Now, the Brazilian has told journalists in his homeland that he misses winning things, as he gears up for the Copa America.

“I miss winning cups,” he said.

“Copa América is another opportunity for me, because every player dreams of winning cups.”

Coutinho had chances to win his first piece of Liverpool silverware this season just gone, but we messed up in the League Cup Final and Europa League Final – the latter of which he completely failed to turn up in.

His quotes are a little odd in that he’s never necessarily had a great history of winning things anyway. The 23-year-old was a sub as Inter won the Copa Italia and the FIFA Club World Cup, while he was part of Vasco De Gama’s squad that won Brazil’s Serie B way back in 2009.

Fans online have gone into meltdown, claiming these comments are a direct indication that Coutinho wants to leave for PSG, where he’s practically guaranteed the Ligue 1 trophy every season – but we actually hope they’re more harmless than that – and are simply a way of saying how much he wants to enjoy success with Brazil.

It’s important not to vilify Coutinho, and accuse him of wanting out, because so far – he’s done nothing wrong. He’s signed up to a long-term contract, and enjoys life on Merseyside. Let’s convince him to stay, not drive him out the door.
