Leading journalist on Coutinho speculation: “I think Klopp would sell him”

Daily Mirror columnist Andy Dunn believes that Jurgen Klopp would sell Philippe Coutinho if he suspected that the Brazilian was not 100% committed to Liverpool.

Coutinho’s future has suddenly come under doubt following suggestions that he is a major summer target of French champions Paris Saint-Germain, as the Daily Mail reports.

The 23-year-old’s recent comments about ‘missing winning cups’ have also got some of us worried that the Brazilian playmaker may be lining up a move away from Anfield.

If that is the case, Dunn – Chairman of the Football Writers Association – feels that Klopp will allow Coutinho to leave because he will only want players who want to be a Red.

“I think Jurgen Klopp will be trying to find out whether Coutinho, even if there’s a hint, would want to go to a different club, I think Klopp would sell him,” Dunn told BBC Radio 5.

“I remember a quote earlier in the season, he [Klopp] was talking about players and someone in a press conference suggested to him ‘If you can’t offer a player Champions League, why would he come to Liverpool?’ and Klopp said he would put the phone down straight away.

“He said he wants people to push the train and not jump on a moving train.

“He wants all of them to be behind Klopp’s project and if he gets a hint that Coutinho is not 100% behind that, I think he’d sell him, I really do,” Dunn added.

Although it is not difficult to believe how highly Klopp values commitment and loyalty, he would surely not let Coutinho – our best player – go without fighting for his future.

Two other journalists – James Pearce of the Echo and Melissa Reddy of Goal, both of whom are reputable Liverpool sources – are confident that we have nothing to worry about with the Coutinho speculation.
