Mark Lawrenson slams Hodgson’s England reign – says sack should have followed dismal World Cup

Mark Lawrenson has not been holding back in his scathing assessment of England boss Roy Hodgson.

Hodgson is already a hugely unpopular figure around Anfield following a shocking spell as manager and his treatment of Daniel Sturridge whilst on England duty – and Lawro has fanned the flames.

“I think he’s a nice guy but he’s the luckiest man alive not to have lost his job after [the World Cup in] Brazil. England were out after two games,” he said.

“Fifty per cent of the managers who managed in the World Cup finals all went. I don’t want to see anyone get sacked but it should be, as an international manager, a two-year cycle.”

“Contracts should only ever be two years and if you do well you get another two.” (via Metro)

Hodgson – who has amazingly been in charge for four years – has come under relentless criticism in the last few weeks for his squad selection and failure to know his best eleven. Thankfully, his contract expires this summer.
