Echo confirm £9.5m Liverpool bid has gone in for Zielinski; Pole wants Anfield move

Liverpool have lodged an official bid of £9.5m for Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski and are hopeful of signing our long-term target ahead of Napoli.

The Echo reports that the offer was submitted over the weekend for the 22-year-old, who has spent the previous two seasons on loan at Emploi in Serie A.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis hopes to convince Zielinksi to stay in Italy but concedes that the player currently favours a switch to Anfield.

He is quoted by the Echo as saying: “Liverpool have made a bid for him and Zielinski wants to join them but we are trying to convince the player to join us, because we have an agreement with Udinese.”

The Echo understands that Zielinski, who was pictured wearing a Liverpool shirt last month, is not interested in joining Napoli and has rejected their proposal.

And we have stepped up our pursuit by Jurgen Klopp speaking with the Poland international on the phone to ensure him that he is a big part of his plans.

There has been a lot of speculation about this prospective transfer over the last few months and now it seems that we are finally close to seeing a conclusion.

Zielinski scored five goals in 66 appearances for Empoli, and could feature for Poland in their opening Euro 2016 game against Northern Ireland this evening.
