Daniel Sturridge speaks about “unbelievable” Wales winner

Daniel Sturridge has branded his winning goal against Wales as “unbelievable” in an interview with the official site.

The 26-year-old was introduced as a half-time substitute in Lens on Thursday and went on the supply the assist for Jamie Vardy’s equaliser before poking home a dramatic winner in stoppage time.

“It was a great feeling, unbelievable,” he said.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity from the gaffer and grateful to God for allowing me to score. It’s a beautiful feeling to represent your country in a rivalry against another great country. It’s a brilliant feeling.

“It’s great to help the boys win the game. My brother has travelled over here, and my cousin, and for them to experience it with me – as well as the other travelling fans – is a great feeling. Hopefully now we can go through.”

The goal means England are now top of Group B with two games played. A point against Martin Sktrel’s Slovakia on Monday night will guarantee Hodgson’s squad a place in the last 16, though in practice they have probably already done enough to qualify as one of the best third-place sides.
