Southampton identify Mane replacement as Liverpool interest intensifies

Jurgen Klopp is apparently interested in bringing yet another Southampton star to Anfield, with Senegalese international Sadio Mane on his transfer list. The Saints are seemingly getting worried about losing the tricky winger, as they’ve begun planning for life without him and are looking at potential replacements for the 24-year-old, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Southampton are reportedly plotting a £12m move for Filip Kostic, a player we’ve also been linked with in the media. The Stuttgart star was part of the team that got relegated from the Bundesliga this past season, and is consequently looking for a way out and back to top flight football.

Klopp is clearly looking to sign a winger at the moment, with a number of players linked with a move to Merseyside. We don’t currently have all the players required and suited to play his style of football, but that looks set to change this summer.

While we haven’t seen too much of Kostic, Mane is obviously tried and tested in the Premier League. He’d naturally cost significantly more than the Serbian international though, with a price tag yet to be named by managerless Southampton.

A number of German clubs are also looking at Kostic, so clearly he’s a player in demand. If we really are looking to sign him then we’d need to move quickly, but if Mane is a priority target then it would obviously be better if Southampton were to get their man.

Mane obviously has a better track record, scoring 15 goals in all competitions for Southampton last season compared to Kostic’s five. Klopp will obviously be drawing from his time in the Bundesliga though, and may see something special in Kostic.
