Liverpool today announced the club will play a friendly with German outfit Mainz on August 7th.
We’ll head to Germany one day after our blockbuster friendly with Barcelona at Wembley August 6th, meaning we’re likely to deploy a much changed XI.
The friendly is the ninth already arranged for the summer, which includes a tour of America and marquee clashes against Chelsea, AC Milan and Roma in the International Champions Cup. Our friendlies will be interesting as they’ll give us a first chance to check out the likes of Marko Grujic, Loris Karius and Joel Matip – all of whom should be available throughout as they’re not playing at the Euros or Copa America.
Hopefully by August there’ll be a number of exciting new players to join those three, as well as a bunch of talented youngsters we can take a real look at.
Remember, Joe Gomez’s performances last summer earned him a starting spot in the initial Premier League side.
