Interesting stats show Liverpool star should start for England ahead of ‘best defender’

We won’t deny that we’ve been pleasantly surprised with Kyle Walker’s performances for England during the Euros so far.

He’s showed an ability to burst forward and beat the opposing left-back out wide, while remaining sensible positionally at the back.

But Nathaniel Clyne’s performance against Slovakia was arguably better than anything we’ve seen from Walker so far, so say statistics gathered by Oulala.

This tweet shows that in terms of numbers, Clyne has bettered the Spurs fullback so far – creating seven chances in his outing, and completing more passes and interceptions per 90 to boot.

In truth, it’s a nice problem for Roy Hodgson to have, because Walker could hardly be considered a weakness based on his two performance so far, and will be fit and raring to go having sat out the Slovakia draw.

For us though, Clyne is the more reliable defender, and if we end of drawing Portugal – would trust the Liverpool man to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo down the left more.

Against Iceland or Hungary, perhaps Walker should come back into the fold…

Where do you stand, Reds?
