Lallana’s England place under threat as Hodgson plays Vardy in training

Adam Lallana has arguably been England’s best player so far at the EUROs.

Yes, his shooting remains a bit “iffy”, but his work-rate, vision, touch, and creativity have been second to none.

And yet, in all his infinite wisdom, Roy Hodgson is considering dropping him in favour of Jamie Vardy when England play Iceland on Monday in Nice (via Mirror).

Now, we’ve got nothing against Vardy. He had a great season at Leicester and can clearly score goals at the highest level.

But Vardy as a wide-right forward? That’s a different story. Why is Hodgson so obsessed with playing players out of position? He’s not the tactical genius he thinks he is. He’s already using Rooney in midfield and Sturridge as a deep-lying playmaker, and surprise surprise, we’ve struggled for goals.

Vardy will reportedly play there in training over the coming days in a bid to convince Roy of his credentials.

Who do you think should start?
