Liverpool turn attention to Brazilian left-back after Chilwell blow

We recently saw a £7m bid turned down for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell (via the Echo) and have consequently directed our attention elsewhere. We’ve been linked with a move for Atletico Mineiro’s Douglas Santos, according to Globo Esporte.

A left-back has been high on our priority list, with a number of players being linked with an Anfield switch. Jurgen Klopp clearly wanted to bring the promising young Englishman Chilwell to the club, but with Leicester valuing him a little too highly we’re now looking at bringing the 22-year-old Brazilian Douglas Santos.

The report suggests Atletico Mineiro are demanding somewhere in the region of €10m, but we’re keen to pay something closer to the €8m mark.

Little is known about Santos in all honesty, but he does seem like a promising young left-back. At the price being touted he’d hardly be a huge risk either, so if he were to not work out it wouldn’t be the end of the world. He’s also being linked with Arsenal (via Globo Esporte), so clearly he’s a player in demand.

That said though, considering we’ve been linked with the likes of Jonas Hector (via the Metro), the fans may be expecting a little more this summer than a relative unknown from South America.
