Nathaniel Clyne hopes he’s done enough to retain his place in Roy Hodgson’s first eleven after being one of England’s standout performers in the disappointing 0-0 draw with Slovakia.

England’s next game is against Iceland in Nice on Monday.

“I was pleased with my performance,” Clyne said. “The manager made changes and we all came in and done well.” (via Echo).

“We dominated the game from start to finish. It was a bit frustrating that we didn’t get the goal which would have won us the game.

“He’s done really well, all of the starting line-up that’s been playing have done well and this was a chance for those coming in to show the manager that they should be in the team.

“It’s good that everyone is fighting for positions, it makes the team healthy and makes everyone push harder.”

Spurs Kyle Walker started the first two games and played well, but with right-back being one of the few places where England have two players of genuine quality, Hodgson now faces a selection headache.
