Yet another Real Madrid star questionably linked with Liverpool switch

Mateo Kovacic is not the only Real Madrid youngster being questionably linked with a move to Liverpool this summer (via Sky Sports), with a former target of ours, Martin Odegaard, now being tipped to make a switch to Anfield too, as reported by Tribal Football (via the Echo).

As the report suggests, the Norwegian starlet almost made a move to Liverpool back in January 2015; visiting Melwood and getting fans excited. He insisted at the time that he was a Liverpool fan, but eventually chose a high profile switch to Real Madrid instead.

This decision has arguably backfired, as he’s become a bit of a forgotten star since his move to La Liga. There was a huge amount of hype surrounding the 17-year-old last year, whereas now he’s sat with Real Madrid B and has fallen off the radar somewhat.

Carlo Ancelotti – the Real Madrid manager at the time of his signing – has even admitted that the transfer was all one big PR stunt, and claims he was never a player he wanted (via Sky Sports).

Had he have moved elsewhere he may have found first-team football a little easier to come by, as despite his tender age he’s unquestionably a talented young player. The fact that he’s barely featured for Real Madrid may well mean he is indeed looking for an exit, but these reports seem fairly unsubstantiated.
