3 Pros and 3 Cons of signing Sadio Mane

Posted by

We are closing in on a deal for Southampton frontman Sadio Mane – but would he be a good signing for the club?

We take a look and three pros and three cons of signing the £30 million man:

PROS

1. He’s Fast. Really Fast.

It’s no secret that we are short of pace in our front line. Sturridge isn’t quite the same as before his injury and the players behind him are more about creativity than raw speed.

2. Goals

Mane was the fourth highest goalscorer from midfield last season. He netted 11 times – which is also more than any LFC player managed.

3. Positions

Far from being a one-trick pony, Mane can play as an out-and-out striker, a wide forward, in the number ten role, or as an advanced midfielder. It gives us options.

CONS

1. Money, money, money

The transfer market has gone mad. £30 million used to buy you the world’s elite a few years ago. Could that £30 million be better spent elsewhere?

2. Hot and Cold

His stats suggest he’s not consistent. Eight of his 11 goals came in the final eight games of the season. Is that what we want?

3. African Cup of Nations

Yep – Mane is likely to miss most of January as he travels to Gabon with Senegal. Not great.
