Southampton officially sign Redmond, Mane edges closer to Liverpool

Southampton officially signed Nathan Redmond from Norwich this past Saturday afternoon, potentially paving the way for Sadio Mane to leave the club and join us at Liverpool, as reported by the Echo.

There’s been a lot of coverage on this story already, as it’s a bit of transfer speculation that genuinely looks very close to becoming a reality. Mane has been tipped to make a Liverpool switch for quite some time now, and as the report suggests he’s nearing closer and closer to a £30m move to Anfield.

With Southampton completing their £11m move for Redmond they are seemingly preparing for life without Mane, so the door may now finally be open for us to complete the deal for the Senegalese international.

We’ve signed a number of players from Southampton in the past, and while several have proved successful, we’ve arguably over paid for all of them. £30m certainly isn’t cheap – especially when you consider Southampton paid just £10m for him two years ago (via the Echo) – but he’s certainly a player of real quality and will hopefully prove a big hit at Anfield.

He scored 11 goals last season, certainly not unimpressive for a winger. You’d expect him to score even more with the teammates he’d have around him at Liverpool, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
