Mourinho & Man United apparently left Liverpool free to make marquee signing (Rumour)

In one of the more ridiculous reports we’ve read recently, stories are suggesting that the only reason we were able to sign Sadio Mane is that Manchester United and Jose Mourinho ended their pursuit of the player, as reported by the Daily Star.

With the Senegalese international having his medical this past Monday afternoon, he’s on the verge of completing a switch from Southampton to Liverpool. The report suggests the deal will be done within the next 48 hours, with the fee set to be around the £30m mark – despite contradicting reports.

Mane was a target of Manchester United’s under Louis van Gaal though, and the Star’s report suggests the 24-year-old only chose to join us due to the Red Devils no longer being interested.

While we have to be realistic and accept that we don’t have the same draw as we once did – with a lack of Champions League football certainly an issue – it’s ridiculous to think that at this point we’re a step down from United. They too have fallen out of the top four and struggled for Champions League football recently, and aside from the wages potentially on offer there’s no reason to choose United over us.

Next season looks like it could potentially be a fantastic year for us, and we are unquestionably capable of showing Mane and everyone else that we can be a better and more successful team than Manchester United.
