Martin Skrtel appears to be just days away from leaving the club.

The defender, who was tied up in France with Slovakia throughout June, is now back on Merseyside and keen to sort out his future as soon as possible. And it looks like that could be as soon as the end of this week.

According to Fenerbahce’s club president, Aziz Yildirim, the deal to take the 31-year-old to Turkey is almost complete.

“Van der Wiel and Slovak Skrtel transfers are almost done,” he told AMK Spor (cited on FourFourTwo). “And Van Persie, we’re waiting for buyers, if he wants to be sold”.

It is thought the fee for Skrtel will be around £5.5 million – a reasonable return given we only paid £6.5 million for him almost a decade ago.

Inter Milan were also rumoured to be keen on the player, but if Yildirim’s comments are to be believed, the Italian giants have lost the race.
