The online reaction to Sterling-gate has gone insane

Raheem Sterling has received a hellish backlash after it emerged that senior England players possibly questioned Roy Hodgson’s decision to start him ahead of Adam Lallana v Iceland…

Despite the fact Lallana had been England’s best player during the group stages, Hodgson went with the woefully out of form former Liverpool winger – who was as abysmal as his team-mates in the 2-1 Last 16 loss to Iceland.

Wayne Rooney and Hodgson have both denied the claims by Sky Sports sources, but this didn’t stop an enormous Twitter reaction – which abused both Sterling, the manager and the supposed senior players who didn’t want him in the team in the first place…
