El Hadji Diouf. It makes us feel a little bit queasy just writing his name…

The former Liverpool player – who is almost certainly the most hated ex-Red of all time – is in the headlines again this week as he slams Anfield legends Stevie G and Carra for the umpteenth time.

(It’s all just a desperate attempt to stay relevant if you ask us…)

According to the Echo, he claimed the two Champions League winners had a “bad mentality” while playing for the club. That’s coming from a man who spat at a Celtic fan in a UEFA Cup quarter-final back in 2003.

“Mane has to be worried about nothing,” he said. “Today you don’t have a bad mentality at Liverpool like Steven Gerrard or Jamie Carragher. You don’t have a bad mentality any more, people to like only themselves.”

“Right now they have a good coach with a good mentality. Sadio stayed at Southampton for two years before he signed for Liverpool. He’s not like me, when I came to Liverpool I came to work in my car to work and I came from outside England. He’s been in England for two years now so for him it will be more easy.”

He also said he’d massively outperformed Gerrard at international level:

“I carried the national team for many years, 14 million fans on my shoulders. When we won, it was thanks to me, when we lost, it was my fault. What I represented for Senegal, he [Gerrard] never managed 100th of that for England. He has never done anything in the World Cup or the Euros.”

Mane and Diouf are both Senegalese, of course. Let’s hope that’s where the similarities end.
