Benteke could still make Crystal Palace switch despite £25m rejected bid

Christian Benteke still looks likely to leave the club this summer, despite the fact that we’ve already rejected a £25m bid from Crystal Palace for the struggling striker (via the BBC)

The Belgian doesn’t appear to have much of a future at Liverpool, but that doesn’t mean we’re willing to let him go on the cheap. We’re clearly looking to recoup most of the £32.5m fee we forked out to bring him in from Aston Villa, with a £30m bid apparently enough to secure his services (via the Express).

Palace have had a £25m bid turned down, but that doesn’t mean a switch to Selhurst Park is out of the question. As the Express’ report suggests, Benteke has already agreed personal terms with the Eagles, so if Alan Pardew is willing to match our valuation of the 25-year-old then he could still make the move.

The cash influx into the Premier League has allowed teams that were previously unable to compete in the transfer market to really throw their weight around, and Palace look like they’re planning on going big this summer.

As the BBC state, they already look to have missed out on the £33m signing of Benteke’s compatriot Michy Batshuayi, and now they’ve turned their attention to another marquee signing.

The former Aston Villa man clearly hasn’t flourished out at Anfield, and while it’s a shame that such a big money signing has failed to work out, a move away from the club should benefit both parties.
